Box Hill is the biggest office centre in Melbourne's east. It is a Metropolitan Activity Centre, and Whitehorse Council's draft structure plan counted around 18,500 jobs in the centre, roughly 40 per cent of them office work. The commercial core runs along Whitehorse Road, Station Street, Carrington Road and Ellingworth Parade, next to a health and education precinct built around Box Hill Hospital, Epworth Eastern and Box Hill Institute.
